TXTPower calls for mobile cellsites, asks telcos to allow subscribers to charge phones at offices

We in TXTPower urge the National Telecommunications Commission to immediately order Smart, Globe and Sun to deploy existing mobile emergency cellsites in critical areas even as the companies rush repairs of more than 700 damaged cellsites in Metro Manila alone.

Smart, Globe and Sun should also open their business centers to subscribers who seek to charge their phones.

These companies have mobile emergency cellsites. These should be swiftly deployed in areas where relief workers and the public desperately need them. Meanwhile, we expect the three companies to work double or triple time to immediately restore service in Metro Manila.

Weak or dead signals hamper communications, which is vital in knowing and reporting problems, discovering and assisting survivors, especially in the aftermath of typhoon Milenyo. As we all await the restoration of Meralco’s electric power service, the telcos should exert effort to help subscribers by opening their business centers for the charging of phones, as a matter of public service at this time.

Immediate restoration of services by Smart, Globe and Sun is crucial to our quick recovery after Milenyo’s devastation.
