TALKS TO END TOMORROW: WILL GLOBE REMAIN STUBBORN? WHAT WILL NTC DO?
Tomorrow, Feb. 23, 2:00 pm at the NTC, Globe Telecom will give its subscribers and the entire nation its final say on the ongoing settlements talks brokered by the NTC.
The ball is in Globe’s hands. Either it accepts the “P100 for 10 days” offer of TXTPower, or it maintains its greedy and garapal position.
The talks will collapse only when Globe rejects the TXTPower offer, which is reasonable and well within the capacity of Globe to give.
From last year until Jan. 31 this year, Globe was able to offer unlimited texting at P50 for five days or an effective rate of P10 per day. Its network not only survived but profited immensely. Approximately 1.5 Filipinos bought Globe SIM packs to avail of this pricing. By Feb. 5 this year, Globe reported record net income running to several billions of pesos, and over 50 billion in total revenues. In short, the P10 per day unlimited texting rate, for the most part, was a good, nay, terrific business decision too!
We continue to assert that the NTC should push, compel, convince the telcos, inluding Globe, to provide the most affordable prices to consumers. No to arbitrary and unwarranted pricing. No to overcharging. No to overpricing. This is not about privileges, but about our rights and welfare that are guaranteed by laws. This is not about consumer abuse, but about corporate scum who have no respect for consumers.
We leave it to Globe and its special agents to convince the public that nothing is wrong, that it is perfectly legal and constitutional to cheat consumers, and that pricing telecom services is just a business decision Globe has to make. The public are more intelligent than how they portray them to be.
As for the NTC, the consumers are already at the end of their patience. The NTC has NOT enforced its cease and desist order. It has treated Globe with kid gloves. Nothing concrete has been done to even temporarily cause the price hike to be suspended pending the resolution of our complaint. One lesson learned: Rules in the NTC are apparently heavily tilted against consumers and favorable to erring companies who have the luxury of buying hotshot law firms to defend their questionable acts.
There are two looming scenarios: The good, which is when and if Globe relents and accepts the TXTPower offer, will compel us to withdraw our legitimate complaint and restore some level of consumer confidence in Globe and the NTC. The chances for this good scenario are slim, so we hope that no one harbors illusions about it. Big corporations are unknown to have really good hearts for customers.
The bad outcome, which is when and if Globe rejects the offer and slaps every subscriber in the face with its stubborn insistence that nothing’s wrong or bad with the price increase, will be an unforgettable episode for Globe subscribers. What we consumers will do if this scenario happens is for Globe and the NTC to guess.
Given all the big things at stake, we hope to see you at the NTC tomorrow.

The number of people answering the Globe poll in
http://www.myglobe.com.ph/myGlobe/polltoday.aspx?title=poll&pollid=362&answerctr=4
saying that they want the old pricing back is increasing.
That and the fact that Globe offered the P100/6 days are signs that they may back down. They may just say that due to consumer demand they will bring back the old rates and use the poll results as a basis.
That way they save face because they won’t really be admitting that their decision was based because of the concerted efforts of TXTPower.

Globe Telecom CRAVES FOR GREEDINESS
Globe subscribers admired Globe services and honesty for several years already. What they adored on this network was its affordable unlimited texting rates of 15 for 1 day, 25 for to days and 50 for 5 days. Its affordable unlimited texting rates persuaded most mobile phone users. This was absolutely the main reason why many subscribers from different networks have switched to Globe. Effectively last Feb. 6, 2006 Globe announced its UNLIMITED TEXTING PROMO (TXTNONSTOP) AS PERMANENT OR FOR GOOD under UNLIMITXT SERVICE. This was even advertised and endorsed by Michael V. It could be seen everywhere in the ads. Such permanent offer delighted its subscribers. They trusted Globe because as dictionaries define
PERMANENT:
1. existing perpetually; everlasting, esp. without significant change.
2. intended to exist or function for a long, indefinite period without regard to unforeseeable conditions: .
3. long-lasting or nonfading:
and FOR GOOD: finally and permanently; forever
they expected that UNLIMITXT was permanent.
However subscribers of Globe are betrayed by the network itself when it hiked the rates and changed its SO-CALLED PERMANENT OR FOR GOOD UNLIMITXT SERVICE. Feb 1, 2007 marked the significant date of rage, grudge of subscribers towards Globe’s betrayal on them. Subscribers were in great disappointment and anger. Perhaps Globe made the worst event and first-ever huge mistake in the history of telecommunications in the Philippines. This is the hottest ever issue of Globe. Globe not only violated and distorted the ENGLISH LANGUAGE MEANINGS for the words PERMANENT AND FOR GOOD but also DID TAKE ADVANTAGE ITS consumers. Globe broke its words and betrayed all of its subscribers who faithfully and loyally patronized and trusted its services for so many years already.
Definitely, GREED, ENVY, and EVIL desires rule on the heart of Globe management esp. on the heart of GERARDO GAGO ABLAZA JR to destroy the trust of Globe subscribers. These are also the reasons why Globe does not offer promos like that of Smart and Sun.
UNLIMITED TEXTING is part of most phone users esp. to students, youth and young people. By means of this, texters can save money since without unlimited texting, cost for texts is very expensive. Unlimited texting was first popularized by Sun Cellular for its 24/7 unlimited call and text. Smart on the other hand introduced its unlimited texting as early as December 2004. Year 2005, Smart unli in the denominations of 15 for 1 day, 30 for 2 days 60 for 4 days became popular. Meanwhile Globe was still unwilling to offer unli for its subscibers. As Globe have seen that its subscibers were decreasing it offered at last unlimited texting promo on August 2005 under TXTNONSTOP promo with denominations of 15 for 1 day, 25 for 2 days, 50 for 5 days and 100 for 10 days. Globe’s delaying to offer unlimited texting drove away its subscribers. Globe Handyphone subscribers on forth quarter of 2005 decreased. Q3 users were greater than Q4 at the same year of 2005. However Globe didn’t discern what’s the reason why its Globe Handyphone users dropped in numbers despite that it offered cheaper unli rates. The reason was that WHEN SMART STARTED ITS UNLI PROMO millions of Globe Handyphone users switched to Smart since Globe didn’t yet offer unli for several moths after Smart. The decreased in Globe users was felt during Q4 of 2005 after the Globe SIM cards of those users who switched to Smart were deactivated 3-4 months after being unused already. However months later Globe unli system was so poor in accommodation and services. As we can still remember it would take 24-48 hours for the activation of our unli!!! This too caused thousands of Globe Handy phone users to switch to other networks.
Globe is the most ENVIOUS of all networks. It tried to stop Sun Cellular’s 24/7 unlimited call and text. Thanks God that Globe evil desire against Sun Cellular was not fulfilled. However its ENVIOUS and EVIL desire against Smart communications and PLDT was slightly satisfied. It was successfully stopped Smart promos including 258 ALL DAY TEXTING PLUS FIVE MINUTE CALL, SMART UNLI30 AND 40 and other Smart promo and it was able to stop PLDT’s P10/call to Smart. Last December Globe tried to stop SMART AND TALK N’ TEXT inter-corporate unlimited texting. Globe was successful but for one day only since Smart-TNT and vice-versa unlimited texting promo was restored. Globe claimed that both Smart and Piltel (TNT) are engaging to UNFAIR COMPETITION IN THE MARKET and thus it’s not in accordance with NTC’s non-discriminatory pricing. Now Globe intensions are clearer. Globe is trying to DISTORT what Smart and PILTEL feel what is right for its subscribers. Now we can make logical judgment which networks really look after the sake its users.
ARE SMART AND PILTER UNFAIR IF THEY REALLY WANT THAT ITS USERS CAN ENJOY ACCESSIBLE AND AFFORDABLE UNLIMITED TEXTING EXCLUSIVELY FOR THEM? IS GLOBE STILL FAIR WHEN IT HIKED ITS RATES 100-150% YET CLAIMING THAT IT’S FOR THE DIFFERENT NEEDS OF ITS SUBSCRIBERS AND SUITABLE FOR THEIR BUDGET? IS GLOBE P20/DAY THE LOWEST UNLI IN THE MARKET AS IT CLAIMED? Globe itself is unfair. It envies the promo of other networks because it doesn’t want to offer the same promo. Globe is fooling and blinding the society imposing its rates as cheaper. Globe is DOGMATIC. It’s still determined to pursue TO GAIN great profit even though millions are switching to other networks as the result of its betrayal. Globe is obscuring its greedy intensions. Its former unlimitxt15 was even expensive than Smart unli15. Why? Globe unlimited texting is exclusively available Globe-Globe unlike Smart which is Smart-TNT, TNT-Smart therefore Smart has the right to claim that its unli is the cheapest unli in the market.
It’s a sad thing to know that the NTC which is our hope to bring us fair and justice seems on the side of Globe. NTC is imbecile!!!! It has no power to enforce its 2 valid orders. It’s a good thing to know that there is a group of consumers who is really determined to fight for our rights. The biggest doubt between NTC and Globe remains unchangeable. We truly believe that Globe paid millions of pesos to Abraham Abesamis and other corrupt NTC commissioners just to be disabled and to be in their DELAYING TACTICS!!!

TXTPower, you can use the information researched by rollen in your meeting tomorrow
hreynes / February 22nd, 2007, 4:27 pm
GAHAMAN TALAGA ANG GLOBE!!!
Our demand should stay– STATUS QUO or BETTER! No more! No less!
mangos10 / February 22nd, 2007, 7:40 pm
3062 votes, 98.87%.. hehe, i guess i was right to spread the link =)
i agree with what hreynes say (first post), i think something good will finally come up tomorrow. not expecting much though, don’t wanna get any hopes crush.
@rollen, one of the longest post i’ve ever seen, but no complains here..
aRC / February 22nd, 2007, 8:31 pm
i agree with rollen.
nabasa ko sa news (i-news.i forgot the site, like abs or thing o inquirer ata) na ipinati2gil ng globe dati yung offer ng smart/pldt na 10/unlimited call.)
which only means na gusto nila sila lang ang may kapangyarihan.
sino ba may sabi nun?promo?yeah right..sabagay.
nothing is permanent in this world except change..
but do you know what’s the glitch?!?
they chould have NOT waved that flag, saying that it is FOR GOOD.
sana di na lang nila sinabing for good yun.
at least matatanggap ko pa na nagtaas sila ng rates ngayon..hindi ba?
fuyuojo / February 22nd, 2007, 8:38 pm
nasaan na kaya si michael? i need a good laugh.
hreynes / February 22nd, 2007, 8:49 pm
good luck for tomorrow guys. either way, it will be the end of the road. hope it’s a victory for consumer rights and txtpower.
pipo / February 22nd, 2007, 9:50 pm
request lang sa TXTPower. Don’t keep us in suspense. Last time it was almost midnight before you posted the results of your meeting with Globe.
hreynes / February 22nd, 2007, 10:26 pm
Good morning, everyone. Current Globe poll results show 3100 people “missing” the old unlimited text service. Good news.
TXTPower convenors, go to NTC later with our thoughts and prayers of support. Like tiNka I wish I could be physically there with you.
God Bless!!!

I have been a globe user since it’s damned CLONING day’s if anybody at my age (28) can still remember it. I choose globe for its care to the consumers. Its been 9 years since I have been a globe user, still i believe that they would change their mind and return to the old UNLITXT. my friends and relatives whom i have constant communication with the past UNLITXT has now stopped.Nobody’s txting me anymore and my battery which usually last’s for 1 and a half day during the UNLITXT days now lasts for 2 and a half!I dont want our communication and closeness to be stopped by some greedy network so if SMART has a good offer this coming months or weeks let us all switch to SMART and leave freakin GLOBE to destruction and downfall.
ronnie / February 23rd, 2007, 9:21 am
well said rollen!
i read in the inquirer website the other day that Globe will make a formal counter offer today. i think counter offer means that they won’t revert back to P10 per day.
i commend Globe for putting up the survey/poll in their website, i hope they now realize the sentiments of the overwhelming majority
me / February 23rd, 2007, 9:28 am
@rollen
handsdown po!
grabe! worth the long read =)
@txtpower.. all our support and goodlucks go to you today =)
@me.. counter offer nnmn? kelangan ung counter offer na un weh 100/10 days na.. tsk tsk
and its not enough that they posted a poll on their site.. they should act on it..
tiNka / February 23rd, 2007, 11:01 am
Goodluck!
Hope everything turns out well.
xavier214 / February 23rd, 2007, 11:14 am
and now the waiting begins.
hreynes / February 23rd, 2007, 12:39 pm
Cant wait to laugh my heart out when Globe decides to stick it up everyone’s greedy arses. And then maybe a few months on, when I hear the quieting down of the loudest whiners here, I’ll smile and remember that once upon a time, there were people who actually thought they could make a difference by refraining from indulguous luxeries they otherwise dont need.
Life will go on, unfortunately. And I’ll bet only a few will in fact have the heart to switch to another network. The rest will suck it up and accept the little difference - like it wasn’t even there in the first place.
:)
redkinoko / February 23rd, 2007, 1:05 pm
I hope Globe will be fair and I hope things wont be settled under the table if you know what I mean. I hope things will be fair.
jerk_shop / February 23rd, 2007, 1:58 pm
hey red,
maybe you conveniently neglected to read rollen’s post. or maybe you don’t know the meaning of the words you write. greedy arses, indeed. maybe you do not know the difference of who’s earning billions already and we who are simply trying to make the most of our hard earned pesos. maybe you consider it fair when that fat cat corporate entity already earning billions of pesos from us subscribers decides on a whim that hey, lets increase our rates 100% and see how fast our bank accounts grow. maybe you’re one of those decision makers who congratulate themselves on that profitable decision and reward yourselves with bonuses.
or maybe you are the greedy one.
must be a lot that Globe is giving you to be their paid hack. God knows they can afford it.
hreynes / February 23rd, 2007, 2:20 pm
hey red.. why dont you reveal ur true identity if ur as courageous as you are arrogant. cummon… or maybe pareho lang kayo ni de los reyes na magtatago na once exposed na totoong kulay nila?
