TXTPower wins Round 1: NTC suspends Globe Unlimitxt price hike

Consumer advocacy group TXTPower today scored a victory as the National Telecommunications ordered Globe Telecom to rollback the rates for unlimited text messaging which the company raised last week by 100-150 percent.
“This is good news and we hope the order becomes permanent,” said TXTPower spokesperson Anthony Ian Cruz. “This is a blow against those who abuse consumers.”
Cruz credited “consumer protests as expressed in our online petition, the reactions in internet forums and the complaint we immediately filed” as factors in “the price rollback, albeit only temporary, of the Globe price hike.”
“We hope the NTC makes sure Globe follows the order and rolls back to the previous rates immediately,” said Cruz. “We will prepare for a public hearing to demolish Globe’s arguments and show why keeping unlimited text messaging rates at the lowest possible levels is a legitimate pro-consumer and pro-business move.”
NTC Deputy Commissioner Jorge Sarmiento met with TXTPower convenors Trixie Concepcion, Vencer Crisostomo and Cruz after the consumer group staged a picket at the
NTC gate also this morning. During the picket, TXTPower burned blue ribbons, Globe Telecom’s advertising symbol, to dramatize its protest.
In an order addressed to Globe Telecom’s V. Froilan M. Castelo, NTC Commissioner Abraham Abesamis ordered the firm to “hold in abeyance the implementation of the new unlimited text service and restore the unlimited text promo priced at P10 for one day, P25 for two days and P50 for five days”.
Abesamis cited TXTPower’s complaint as the basis for the order and added that a public hearing will be held to settle the dispute. TXTPower emailed the complaint to the NTC on Feb. 1, the same day Globe implemented the new price hike.
The League of Filipino Students, the Kabataan Partylist and scientists group Agham joined the picket and endorsed the TXTPower complaint.
An online petition which started on Saturday has gathered 836 signatures as of presstime. The petition is in support of the TXTPower complaint and the calls for a rollback. ###
Globe Suspends New UnliTXT/UnlimiTXT Rates…
NTC ordered Globe Telecoms to suspend its new UnliTXT rates in response to the complaint filed by TXTPower….
Hopefully, we’ll win because I love Globe, because of the cheap pricing of Unlimitxt. But now, I hate ‘em.
i called on globe costumer service knina at around 4pm and i found out the the csr’s are not aware that NTC suspends their Unlimitxt promo. They even continue to market their new promo’s even there’s a order of suspension from NTC.
if there’s a suspension, why there are still advertising their promo’s?
Makikibalita tayo sa NTC bukas, at aalamin kung na-enforce nila ang sariling order at kung nag-comply ang Globe.
Aabangan natin ‘yan.
o my goodness globe didnt comply with NTC’s mandate to suspend their new scheme about unlimitext. They still charge the same rate which we consumers cannot afford….. check it out now….. bad trip…. kala ko babalik sa dati till such time na magkaroon ng decision?…
buwisettttttt!!!!!!!
as of 7:53AM Feb. 06, 2007, according to globe costumer service personnel, they will still continue the new unlitxt promo. based on what she have told me, they are discussing on how to respond on NTC request. for me naman, why they are not following NTC’s order? sana naman huwag madala sa pera ang mga taga-NTC…
Sir I would like to complain regrding globe refusal to rollback it’s unlimited pricing. As I called the customer service representative, she has no idea whether globe will rollback as soon as possible. Globe did not comply the NTC. Pls help us.
What shall we do? Globe is still hard headed. It doesn’t value its subscribers as long as it can gain. Pls Sir Anthony Ian Cruz help us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just wanted to thank the proponents of Txtpower for giving us a voice. I’ve been searching since yesterday for a way to take action against this “Price Hike disguised as a Promo” by Globe. I was beginning to lose hope. I was starting to think that I was alone and felt so defeated. I was so happy to find this group. Again, Thank you so much for taking this action.
Congratulations on your first victory!!! Please dont relent. Again, thank you for giving us a voice. Take care and GOd bless.
Madaling daanin sa pera ang NTC maski bigyan pa yan tag 10million isa saglit lang babawiin ng glode yan sa atin since sobrang laki ng price hike ng unlimitxt. tingin ko the best we can do is to boycott globe nlang either we switch to other (smart or sun) or less text na lang para ma realize ng globe masyadong lugi mga subscriber nila tapos walang sabisabi magtataas sila simpleng panloloko yan
dapat yung hindi pag comply ng globe ngayon should be grounds for suspension ng permit nila pero obviously hindi rin tama yun dahil dami apektado at least man lang sana makita dito na may batas na dapat sundin ang globe
