Boycott big, bad Globe starting Feb. 8

In response to Globe Telecom’s “barefaced and shameless” defiance of a National Telecommunications Commission order to rollback unlimited texting rates, consumer group TXTPower today announced a nationwide boycott of the firm’s services starting February 8.
In a statement emailed to the media, internet forums and mailing lists at 1:00 am today, TXTPower said “consumers should make their power known to Globe and like-minded corporate scum who disrespect consumers and who defy the law.”
TXTPower’s call for a boycott asks subscribers incensed by Globe’s intransigence to choose any or all of the following:
Avoid SMS and Calls through the Globe network. Find other ways to communicate.
Postpone automatic and card reloads
Postpone GCash transactions
Postpone line applications
Refrain from getting icon/music/visual downloads from Globe
Refrain from using Globe’s GPRS and 3G services
“Yes, we must boycott and sacrifice now before Globe transforms all of us into a community of people with no self-respect and no sense of consumers rights. We must boycott Globe until it obeys the NTC order and restores the old Unlimitxt rates,” the statement said.
TXTPower spokesperson Anthony Ian Cruz said “Globe fully deserves to be boycotted and hated by its subscribers. The company continues to disobey a valid order from the NTC and insists that it has a right to impose a 100-150 percent price hike for its unlimited texting service without any public hearing.”
“We are confident that subscribers will participate in this boycott. They have been asking what they could do to teach Globe a lesson in humility. This boycott aims to do that. Globe has to respect its subscribers and it has to obey orders from lawful bodies,” said Cruz.
On Feb. 5, the same day NTC issued an order against Globe, the company reported record high annual profits of 11.8 billion pesos for 2006, up 14 percent from 2005. Revenues were up by four percent at 57 billion pesos. 1.2 million subscribers also joined Globe’s network in 2006, the same year the company introduced Unlimitxt.
TXTPower said the boycott will be lifted once Globe obeys the NTC order and rolls back the price of unlimited texting service.
An uproar of protests greeted Globe’s implementation of new unlimited texting rates on Feb. 1. The new rates of P20, P40 and P80 for one, two and four days of unlimited texting caught the ire of subscribers who have long availed of Globe’s Unlimitxt Permanent Service price at P15, P25 and P50 for one, two and five days. ###

Hope everyone will participate in the boycott. We have many ways of doing it. The point is to make Globe feel that we won’t take it sitting down.
Also, see you all on Friday 2:00 pm for the NTC hearing regarding our complaint against Globe unlimitxt rate hike. The NTC building is at BIR road near the corner of East Ave, Quezon City. Nearby landmarks are BIR, Central Bank,NSO and SSS.

Sir i think we could hardly convince most of the subscribers to particape on the boycott since their are many rich subscribers and they will really use communications since the can afford. I think rally will help a lot. We should rally while thr is hearing

Received a forwarded message allegedly from a globe subscriber…
“LET’s be fair with globe telecom: Globe is in the news for their alleged sudden increase of rates for the unlimited text. Technically speaking, it’s one way to regulate the abuse of unlimited text that would cause the downtime of the network. If unlimited text will be used like how teenagers abuse it. It will create a problem like what Suncellular has , acongested network that causes delayed sms % line disconnection every 15mins. Globe has been known for it’s ingenuity & integrity in the telecommunications industry, they value their subscribers/ Let’s be fair to the network who introduced GSM in Asia to lower down the cost oftelecommunications in the country.PLs pass.Thank you.!”
I don’t know what kind of idiot person can think this way and actually forwards this message to other people. I just hope the public hearing tomorrow will yield favorable results to us, enough to shake the greedy executives from globe!

Hindi naman kasi nakakaawa ang isang company na may profits na 11.8-billion. Mas nakakaawa subscribers na inaabuso.
Yun ang sagot diyan: Globe ang abusado, hindi ang subscribers nila.

ya right.. sun cellular was the first to introduce bulk pricing so globe has no moral standing to claim it was the one that lowered the prices for mobile services especially sa calls and text msgs.

anong “one way to regulate the abuse of unlimited text”? anong abuse dun? dapat before sila mag-implement ng promo, make it sure na kakayanin ng system nila. tapos nag-advertise kayo na ang unlimited text ay for good na. kung may balak din pala kayong baguhin ang rates, dapat sa mga commercials nyo di nyo na nilagay yung rates. niloloko nyo na ang taong bayan e. ano tingin nyo sa aming mga subscribers, bobo? mas bobo pa nga yata kayo e kasi bulsa nyo na lang ang iniintindi nyo.

hi blue_ferret, who ever wrote that text must think we’re a bunch of idiots. While its true congestion was a problem, that was around 10 years ago nung bago pa ang SMS. Since then Globe has had the opportunity to expand and upgrade their network.
Tama si Alfred. For Globe to say na permanent na ang unli, ibig sabihin kaya na ng network nila.

When was the last time you received a delayed message through Globe? I never experienced that. Anong pinagsasasabi nilang congested yung system. Ginagamit nanaman nila yung excuse nila years ago kung bakit they started charging 1 peso per text. Manloloko talaga. Kita niyo na… ang excuse nila lagi is not because nalulugi sila kasi hindi naman talaga. Gumagawa sila ng excuse na kunyari for the benefit of the customers yung ginagawa nila when the truth is, Gusto lang nila lumaki ang kita nila. In whatever business, the deciding factor is the return. Kahit kailan i’ve never encounterd a corporate proposal na and justification is “This would be better for the consumer” its always “This is the potential ROI” (ito ang kikitahin natin.) Bottomline…Its all about the money.
